THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, December, 1750  The most noteworthy feature is the article: "Curious Experiments in Electricity" takes a full page & includes a footnote reading: "In an account of some experiments made in America by Mr. B. Franklin now in the press) we find a yet more surprising hole made thro' a quire of paper.".
An unrelated but interesting article has: "Of the Electric Copernican System" (with illustration), which is followed immediately by: "Some account of the present state of the controversy concerning Milton's imitation of the Moderns."
There is a full page plate of various botanical prints (with a descriptive article). Lacking the plate showing eight gates to the City of London.

Other items in this issue include: "Inoculation for the Smallpox Defended" "Castration Proposed for Capital Offenders" "Insolence & Brutality of the Crusaders" "Ill Conduct & Misfortunes of the Crusaders" "Observations of the great Lunar Eclipse" "Scriptures, whether wrote by Inspiration" "Dogs to be Taxed" and more. Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe. Included also is news from Nova Scotia which reports trouble with the Indians & the French.
Complete in 48 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, in very nice condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
