* Abraham Lincoln
* U.S. Senate candidate
Page 3 has an article headed: "Politics In Illinois" which reports the election of Abraham Lincoln as the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, to be opposed by incumbent Stephen Douglass the Democrat. This election would be followed by the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates & would thrust Lincoln's name to national prominence & eventually the presidency.
The report notes in part: "...Republican State Convention recently held...put forward its ticket...a Legislature which will have the appointment of a U.S. Senator. For the latter position the name of the Hon. Abraham Lincoln, formerly a Representative in Congress from Illinois, is pressed with apparent unanimity. The friends of Judge Douglas are sanguine that he will be able to maintain his position...".
Four pages, nice condition. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
