January 14, 1861

NEW YORK HERALD, Jan. 14, 1861  The first column has various heads concerning the coming Civil War, including: "THE CRISIS" "The Instructions to Major Anderson Not Yet Decided On" "The President Anxious to Avoid Bloodshed" "Officeholders Holding Secession Sentiments to be Removed" "Departure of the Southern Members of Congress" "Seizure of a Navy Yard & Fort in Florida" "The Defences of Mobile, Alabama" & more.
Also at the top of the front page is a simplistic map headed: "The Defences of Mobile, Alabama, Now in Possession of the State Troops" (see).
Much front page reporting on the events leading to the Civil War with more inside as well. Eight pages, minor foxing at folds, otherwise quite nice.
