October 26, 1864

THE CRISIS, Columbus, Ohio, Oct. 26, 1864  Among the articles within: "More Georgia Talk About Peace" "Lincoln's Reply to the Tennessee Delegation" takes half a column & is signed in type: Abraham Lincoln; "Sheridan's Victory i Grant's Army..." "The Battle Near Strasburg" "War News of the Week" "The Battle On Little Blue River" "The Late Raid Into Vermont" "Hood Moving Southward, with Sherman in Pursuit" "Mosby's Cavalry Operating in the Vicinity of Washington" "The Movement of Lee's Army..." and so much more.
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed so it folds out to one large sheet, some rubbing at folds, generally good.

Described as "The Hottest Rebel Sheet to be found in the North or the South", this newspaper opposed the war and attracted the hatred of the Republicans and the Lincoln administration. It insisted that slavery could not be prohibited by law. So obnoxious was this paper to Unionists that it was denied circulation in some cities. In 1863 the press was raided by a hateful mob.
