Page 6 has under the title, "UNCLE TOM'S CABIN," a lengthy critique which provides an itemized list of both favorable and unfavorable points regarding Harriet Beecher's Stowe's masterpiece - most of which is shown in the images. The article includes a comment in which the book is refereed to as the "production of a genius of a high order," and includes: "[it] is a book which has probably been more extensively read during the past year than any other in the English language, the Bible itself not excepted." See images for their analysis, which takes nearly 2 1/2 columns. On the same page is, "A Fabrication," which states: "The Tribune [N.Y.], of course, makes it a theme for one of the splenetic effusions with which it has lately abounded; and which have been poured out against ourselves...". It copies a portion of an article which is circulating, which includes in part: "The work, Uncle Tom's Cabin, is, to say the least of it, a smutty story...," with more to follow.
