DAILY EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, June 10, 1863

* Ulysses S. Grant finished ?
* Robert E. Lee - pre Gettysburg

Not only a nice Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page has in the first column: "Dispatch From General Lee-A Ten Hours Fight with the Enemy--Victory of the Confederate Forces ! " which includes the dispatch signed: R. E. Lee, and reads: "The enemy cross the Rappahannock this morning at 5 o'clock...at the various fords from Beverly to Kelly's with a large force of cavalry, accompanied by infantry & artillery. After a severe contest till 5, p.m., General Stuart drove them across the river." (see photos). Also: "From Fredericksburg" with the vast majority of the front page taken up with reports from: "The Courts". There are also various Acts from the Confederate Congress.
The back page has a lengthy editorial which begins: "By far the most interesting piece of intelligence received from Vicksburg...is the statement that Kirby Smith's forces hold Millican's Bend. This is an important strategic point on the Mississippi...If it is indeed true that the Confederates hold that point with force, Grant's campaign is virtually finished..." with more (see). Also on the bkpg. are: "Latest News From the North" with subheads: "From Tennessee--Sharp Skirmishing Along the Lines--From Fort Hudson--Repulse of the Federal with Immense Loss--Desperate Fighting" "Stores of Deserters from Vicksburg" "The Very Latest from Vicksburg--Fears of Lee's Army Crossing Over" and a bit more. Also: "Still Later From the North" "Banishment of Citizens From Western Virginia--Inhumanity of the Yankees" "The Why & Wherefore" "The Latest from Vicksburg" and a bit more.
Single sheet with a full banner masthead, never bound nor trimmed with wide margins, a few creases at the margins, nice condition.
