November 01, 1859

NEW YORK HERALD, Nov. 1, 1859

* Trial of John Brown
* Harper's Ferry insurrection

Over half of the front page is taken up with a large: "Map Of The Polar Seas, With the Leading Points of Interest in Arctic Exploration" which shows from Labrador to the North Pole and west to the "Behring Strait". The balance of the ftpg. is taken up with the: "History of Arctic Expeditions from 1743 to 1859" "Another Expedition Proposed".
But the more significant content is on page 3 with column heads: "The Outbreak At Harper's Ferry" "The Trial of John Brown, Charged with Conspiracy, Treason and Murder" "The Verdict Of The Jury" "Conviction of the Prisoner of Three Capital Crimes" "Graphic Description of the Closing Scenes in the Court Room" "The Probable Fate of the Culprit" and more (see). This very detailed coverage takes 5 column. Page 6 has a lengthy editorial on this, headed: "Close of the Charlestown Trial--Verdict of Guilty Against John Brown" and also: "The Harper's Ferry Conspirators & the Government at Washington" (see).
Complete in 12 pages, a bit irregular at the spine, good condition.
