May 18, 1864

CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, May 18, 1864  This was one of only a few newspapers which printed: "Confederate States of America" in the dateline. The front page has a wealth of war-related reports including: "Latest From Virginia", "Heavy Fighting Near Drewry's Bluff", "Enemy Defeated With Great Loss", "General Beauregard Commanding the Centre", "Yankee General Hickman Captured", "Enemy Again Repulsed at Spottsylvania C.H.", "From the Southwest", "Confirmation of Banks' Surrender", "Yankee Raiders Gone Back", "Additional From the North", "Siege of Charleston", "The Yankee Raids in Mississippi" and other items.

The back page has: "Interesting Letter from Dalton", "Later From the North", "From Beauregard's Army" but the balance is mostly taken up with advertisements & notices.

Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a full banner masthead, a minor archival mend near the right margin, in great condition.
