December 05, 1860

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, Dec. 5, 1860

* President James Buchanan
* State of the Union Address
* Much on tensions in the South

All of page 4 & a portion of pg. 5 are taken  up with the: "President's Message" signed in type by: James Buchanan. This was his annual state-of-the-union address, the last before the outbreak of the Civil War. Given the period, there is much concerning the growing divisions between the North & South.
Following Buchanan's address are various reports from the military as well as a report headed: "African Slave Trade" which begins: "During the past year the suppression of the African slave trade has received attention & the work has been prosecuted with vigor..." with much more including listings of various captured ships (see).
g. 6 has an editorial on the address. Eight pages, a bit irregular at the spine from disbinding but not affecting text, good condition.
