THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, June 23, 1942

* Fort Stevens, Oregon attacked
* Japanese submarine I-25

The front page announces a rare occurrence in American history with a one column heading: "Sub Shells Falls Harmlessly on Pacific Coast" with photo headed: "Where One of Sub's Shells Struck Oregon" On the nights of June 21 and 22, 1942, the Japanese submarine I-25 fired 17 shells at Fort Stevens, Oregon, making it the only military installation in the continental United States to receive hostile fire during World War II (the oil fields in Santa Barbara, California that were also shelled by the Japanese, was not considered a military installation).
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete with all 20m pages, light toning at the margins, library stamp within masthead, generally nice.
