LEBANON ADVERTISER, Pennsylvania, Aug. 1, 1849

* Rare pre-Civil War title
* California gold rush

An uncommon title, and the volume 1, number 5 issue. Near the top of the ftpg. is: "From California" with a San Francisco dateline, & including: "The anchorage is crowded with vessels & more arriving daily...Provision & clothing are abundant & cheap...People in San Francisco are madly gambling in lands...New towns are laid out in different spots around the bay...Gold dust is not dug out freely...At the mines as yet, matters are very quiet...that six men in 20 days, near Feather River, procured $60,000 in gold dust...".
Page 2 has a nice article: "Col. Jefferson Davis" from years before he would be the President of the Confederacy.
Four pages, some loss near the margins and at the spine, some wear at the folds, several discrete archival mends.
