April 29, 1986

LOS ANGELES TIMES, April 29, 1986

* Chernobyl - catastrophic nuclear accident
* Early report with diagram
* The most disastrous nuclear power plant accident in history

The front page has the historic, two-column, two -line heading covering the Chernobyl Nuclear Accident: "Soviets Report Nuclear Accident," with subheading: "Radiation Cloud Sweeps Northern Europe; Termed Not Threatening," with a corresponding map. Another front page article has, "Moscow Rated Damaged Plant Among Safest." The caption under the image states, "Accident's radiation reached Stockholm, 750 miles northwest of the Chernobyl plant." Inside coverage includes an additional article with corresponding photo (see images). Considerable details are present. Nice to have this report in a major city newspaper.

The issue is believed to be complete, but is being offered for the noted content. Some browning has occurred at the mid-fold, with even toning throughout - otherwise good (see images for details).
