September 21, 1822

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Sept. 21, 1822  Starting on page 37 and continuing to the top of page 39 is "The Shakers" which is a lengthy article providing at least one early 19th century perception of the beliefs and customs of the Shakers.
Of note is their belief that there is to be no resurrection of the body upon death. The specific group of Shakers being described (Warren County, Ohio) disavow worshiping Anna [Ann] Lee - although this statement is challenged by the writer of the article.
Also of note is a brief article "East Indies" which mentions the inception of the first weekly newspaper printed in the Bengalee language.
Complete in sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 3/4 inches, a bit of rubbing, otherwise in nice condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
