NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, July 12, 1828 Starting on page 316 and continuing through page 325 are considerable details regarding the July 4 dedication ceremonies of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (the oldest railroad in the United States), which included the last living signor of the Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll (Senator of Maryland) performing the groundbreaking. Among the pages of details regarding the event is the complete text inscribed upon the commemorative First Stone. See images for details of this historic event.
