November 05, 1859

NEW YORK HERALD, Nov. 5, 1859

* John Brown's insurrection - invasion - raid
* Harpers Ferry WV West Virginia trial
* Rare printing of Henry David Thoreau's lecture

The last column of the front page has heads on the John Brown raid: "The Harper's Ferry Outbreak" "More of the Insurrectionists Convicted" "Copeland's Confession" "Progress of The Revolution" "Endorsement of John Brown & His Cause" "Kansas Abolition Testimony Against Old John Brown" and more. The article takes a full column & carries over to take nearly 3 columns on pg. 2. Terrific detail.
Perhaps the most noteworthy content is the page 2 article containing details of Henry David Thoreau's impassioned Boston lecture (attended by Frederick Douglass) regarding his view of John Brown.
Eight pages, irregular at the left spine with a bit of loss - but not to key content. The price reflects the condition.
