October 30, 1879

DAILY ARIZONA CITIZEN, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, Oct.30, 1879

* Very rare Old West title

Many years ago we had a reasonable inventory of this title, but today this is one of our last. And it is a volume one issue from the Territory of Arizona as it did not become a state until 1912.
Page 2 hs a report: "The Indians" which mentions: "...give the most deplorable account of the ravages of Victorio and his band in their recent raids. About sixty persons have been killed...entire attention of the citizens seems now to be devoted to self protection. The country is in arms..." with more.  Victorio was considered one of the fiercest of the Apache leaders.
Also articles on the Ute Indians and the Navajoes (see).
The bkpg. has an ad for the famous "Delmonico Restaurant" by "Miss Nellie Cashman" who has some notoriety in Western history (see several web pages on her). Many of the ads throughout the issue have a distinctive "Old West" flavor.
Complete in four pages, never bound nor trimmed, a few very discrete archival mends to margins inside, very nice condition.
