The most notable content would be a report near the back concerning Captain James Cooks third voyage, and with good detail on the death of Cook. One portion includes: "...The islanders became every day more bold...their inclination for theft which went so far as to steal one of his boats. Captain Cook...advanced towards a large body...and accosted their chief...Indians begun then to be enraged...they did not give time to load again, but killed Captain Cook and four of his people, forcing the others...to make their escape under favour of the fire of their pinnace, Captain Clerke...saw no possibility of revenging the death of the brave Captain Cook..." (see).
Near this is a report noting in part: "...from Paris, that Dr. Franklin...has asked & obtained his dismission & that he will soon set out for Philadelphia. The true motive...is not known; some think it is because he & the members of Congress have disagreed...whist others say it is that as he is very far advanced in years he wishes to retire...not absolutely certain who will succeed him, but it is imagined it will be Mr. Adams...".
The two plates called for are lacking.
Complete in 48 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page with a great engraving of the London skyline which is a bit close-trimmed at the right margin, very nice condition.
This magazine was formatted very much like the much more common Gentleman's Magazine but is reasonably more rare.
