THE LONDON MAGAZINE, England, August, 1774 A feature is an article: "Genuine Account of Omiah, A Native of Otaheite [Tahiti], A New Discovered Island in the South Seas, Lately Brought over to England by Capt. Fourneaux". The article takes over a page and includes a full page plate of him.
This was Omai, about whom much can be found on the internet. Omai met Captain James Cook in 1769 in Tahiti. In August, 1773 he embarked on the British ship HMS Adventure, commanded by Tobias Furneaux, which had previously touched at Tahiti as part of James Cook's second voyage of discovery in the Pacific. He arrived at London in October, 1774 where he was introduced into British society. During his two-year stay in England, Omai became much admired within London high society. Renowned for his charm, quick wit and exotic good looks, he quickly became a favorite of the aristocratic elite.
Also of interest is the article: "A Prophecy of Lord Kames Concerning the North American Colonies" which begins: "Our North America colonies are in a prosperous condition, increasing rapidly in population, in commerce, and in opulence. The colonists have the spirit of a free people, and are enflamed with patriotism...they will then be a match for the mother country if they choose to be independent..." with much more.
Near the back over 2 pages are taken up with: "American Affairs", most of which is focused on the anger of the American over the Boston Port Bill and related consequences. See photos for details.

Complete in 52 pages, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
