THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, September 9-11, 1783

* Treaty of Paris (peace) announcement
* End of the Revolutionary War

An extremely historic issue, as the front page begins with a report taken from the London Gazette of the day prior  announcing the signing of the Definitive Treaty of Peace, formally ending the Revolutionary War.
It reads in part: "On Saturday night last, capt. Warner arrived with the Preliminary Articles between his Majesty and the States General, signed at Paris on the 2d instant; as also the Definitive Treaties of Peace between his Majesty and the Most  Christian and Catholic Kings, signed at Versailles on the 3d instant...The Definitive Treaty with the United States of America was also signed  at Paris  on the 3d inst. by David Hartley, Es: his Majesty's Plenipotentiary, and by the Plenipotentiaries of the Unites States; and Mr. Hartley is  hourly expected to  arrive with it."
It would be almost 3 weeks before the text of the Treaty would be printed in the London Chronicle (see our item 631548), and several weeks also before it would be reported in American newspapers, hence great to have this early report in a London newspaper.
There are many additional reports concerning closing events in the war as well but it pales in comparison. Several items concerning the evacuation of  the Loyalists, plus mention of Congress moving to Princeton, New Jersey, due to the soldier insurrection in Phila. over lack of pay.
Great to have this historic report at the top of the front page. Complete in 8 pages, 8 1/4 by 11 inches, nice condition.
