July 01, 1778

THE LONDON MAGAZINE, England, July, 1778  Inside includes a report from the "House of Commons" which begins: "This day the long expected examination of General Burgoyne commenced...to inquire into the circumstances that occasioned the failure of the Canada expedition...". Burgoyne was heavily criticized for his surrender at Saratoga. This report carries over to take more than a full page.
At the back is a fine report from the Penna. General Assembly detailing how--or how not--negotiations may be made with England, noting six Resolves. Among them: "...That any man...who shall presume to make any separate or partial convention, or agreement with the king of Great Britain...ought to be considered & treated as open and avowed enemies o the United States of America."
Complete in 48 pages, 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, very nice condition. Lacking both of the plates called for.
