April 15, 1865

NEW YORK WEEKLY DAY-BOOK, April 15, 1865  Keeping in mind this is a weekly newspaper the reports will not be as timely as the daily editions. The thoroughness of coverage, however, is great.
The ftpg. begins with: "The Evacuation Of Richmond" which takes over half of the front page with many subheads including: "Incidents of the Evacuation" "Flight of the Confederates" "The City Fired" "The Mayor Surrenders the City" "Gen. Lee's Residence" and more.
Additionally page 5 begins with very historic column heads: "SURRENDER OF GENERAL LEE "Terms Of The Capitulation" "Movements of Sherman unknown" "Mr. Lincoln On Reconstruction". This reporting includes the notable  dispatches Among A. Lincoln, U.S. Grant, and R. E. Lee with numerous letters signed in type by each, spelling out the details of the terms of surrender (see).
Much more end of war content but it pales in comparison to these two notable events: the fall of Richmond, the Confederate capital; and the surrender of Lee at Appomattox.
Eight pages, rejoined at the spine, nice condition.
