Great coverage of the Scopes 'monkey' trial...

Item # 649893

July 17, 1925

NEW YORK TIMES, July 17, 1925

* Scopes Monkey Trial
* Dayton, Tennessee
* William Jennings Bryan
* Clarence Darrow

This issue has considerable coverage of the famous John Scopes "monkey trial" with a four column headline at the top of the front page: "BRYAN DEFENDS TENNESSEE AND ITS LAW; CALLS EVOLUTION ATTACK ON CHURCH; SPIRITED DEBATE ON EXPERT EVIDENCE" with many subheads. (see) The very detailed coverage carries over to take most of page 2 as well.
This very famous trial involved high school science teacher, John Scopes, who was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act which made it unlawful to teach evolution.
Complete in 32 pages, light toning at the margins, irregular along the spine, generally nice.
