THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 5, 1783 

* General George Washington to retire ?
* American Revolutionary War ending


The ftpg. has some American news including: "...letters were received from Sir Guy Carleton at New York...left Philadelphia the 20th of April. She brings the assent of Congress to the Provisional Articles of Peace & some new instructions to the American commissioners at Paris for forming a Commercial Treaty with England...General Washington was with the American army at Head  Quarters near New York...but by his own request he had obtained permission of Congress to retire to his former private station in life immediately after the evacuation of New York; at which tie also the whole American army is to be disbanded...".
A brief report on page 6 includes: "...vessel is arrived there from New York...brought over several Scotch families & their effects, who had been Loyalists and therefore did not chuse to continue their any longer, as the British forces were preparing to evacuate  that city, the transports lying in the harbour ready to take them on board."
Eight pages, 8 14 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
