April 07, 1933

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 7, 1933

* Prohibition ending
* Beer returns at midnight
* Legal liquor

The main front page headline announces the end of Prohibition with: "BEER FLOWS IN 19 STATES AT MIDNIGHT AS CITY AWAITS LEGAL BREW TODAY; 3.2 ERA OPENS HERE WITH FEW REVELS" with many subheads (see). This was the Cullen-Harrison Act which allowed for the sale of 3.2% beer throughout the nation on April 7. The full end of Prohibition would come on Dec. 5 with the ratification of the 21st Amendment. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 40 pages, light toning and a little wear at the margins, generally in good condition.
