NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Dec. 26, 1818 The first 13 pages are taken up with continued reporting on the: "Seminole War" and includes a wealth of letters and documents including 6 signed in type by: Andrew Jackson.
About one-third of the back page is taken up with an item with a small head: "Col. Boone" which notes in part: "The account of col. D. Boone's death...is entirely a fabrication, probably framed for the purpose of introducing the fanciful incident of the heroic woodsman breathing his last with his check pressed against the butt of his favorite rifle...the old gentleman was perfectly healthy & wore the appearance of not being more than 65 year of age although he is between 80 and 90. His sight had failed him...The family of col. Boone, consisting of his sons and daughters, with their wives & husbands, live near each other & form a most interesting groupe...Col. Boone...has intimated his intention of moving higher up the Missouri, out of the precincts of the settlements that are so thickly forming around him." with more.
Included with this issue is the "Supplement" of 8 pages, taken up with much on our relations with Spain.
Complete in 24 pages with the Supplement, 6 1/4 by 10 inches, very good condition.
As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
