January 06, 1862

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Jan. 6, 1862

* Rare rebel title
* Account of the 251- round boxing match between Edward Burnett and James Fitzgerald

Not only a nice Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy. The prime feature of the front page is an extremely detailed, round by round account of: "The Great Prize Fight" which went 251 rounds and three hours and two minutes. Also on the front page: "Yankee Bombast" "Supplies & material of Railroads" and: "Another Stampede of Slaves" which tells of their escape (see).
More war-related news is found on the inside pages with the always interesting editorial, plus news items from Europe with subheads: "The Probabilities of A War--England Repudiates the 'Stone' Blockade--the English Press on Lincoln's Message" "The Federal Navy..."  Also: "The Chicken Question "The Demand for Vigilance" "The Blockade" and other items. The back page is mostly taken up with a lengthy list of Acts passed by the Confederate Congress.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, some margin tears, and a small piece from the bottom left margin affecting only ads on pages 1 & 2. Generally nice condition.
