NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Sept. 21, 1840

* African slaves description
* La Amistad slaver ship

Page 2 has an article: :The Africans of the Amistad" which has a descriptive account of the captive slaves including: "...to see the captives...The nonsense that has been written about them is awful...they are just what in the south would be called a likely lot of young negroes...They are small, not averaging..." with much more. This famous slave ship and the revolt of its occupants was not only a notable legal case at the time, but in 1997 was made into feature length movie by Stephen Spielberg.
Following this is: "The Slave Trade".
The back page has an interesting tidbit: "The Greatest Speed Ever Known!" which mentions that: "The steamboat...has eclipsed all other boats by 45 minutes. She left New York...at 5 o'clock & arrived in Albany at 1 o'clock and 35 minutes--making the passage in 8 hours and 35 minutes." This is a 150 mile trip which today can be driven in 2 1/2 hours.
Sixteen pages, 8 1/2 by 12 inches, very nice condition.
