DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Feb. 21, 1862

* Battle of Fort Donelson, Tennessee
* Jefferson Davis proclamation
* From the capital of the Confederacy

Most of the front page is taken up with ads, however there is very lengthy text under the heading: "The Roanoke Island Affair" "The Yankee Account Of The Battle" "Interesting Particulars And Details" with many subheads, including: "Suffering & Dismay" "The Fight on the Island" "The Fight Commenced" "Desperate Effort of the Rebels" and more.
The big event at this time was the fall of Fort Donelson, Tenn., to U.S. Grant, which happened on Feb. 16, the page 2 editorial begins: "The only intelligence from Fort Donelson still comes by Northern channels and may be found in the telegraphic dispatches of this paper today. Not a word has been received directly from Nashville & we have reason to believe that the war department knows no more than ourselves...". But the page 3 report has: "Latest News From The North and Fort Donelson" include: "...the precise extent of the capture as everything is in the greatest confusion..." with much more.  A bit further on is: "Latest From Fort Donelson" includes: "...Northern accounts of the battle at Fort Donelson admit that the Federal army was terribly cut to pieces--their dead lay in heaps--and the scene of the battle beggars all description. It was a dearly bought victory for the Federals..." and then also: "Latest From the North--The Capture of Fort Donelson--Additional Particulars--Great Loss on Both Sides--Large Number of Arms & Prisoners Taken--Great Rejoicing in the North--The Victory to be Celebrated in Congress".
Also on page 3 is: "Proclamation By the President" which is signed in type: Jefferson Davis, proclaiming a day of fasting, humiliation and prayer (see).
Other items inside include: "Attack on Moorfield" "The Latest Northern News" "The Confederate Congress" "A Suggestion to the Confederate Congress" and even more. The bkpg. is entirely taken up with ads and a lists of "Acts of Congress of the Confederate States".
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice, clean condition.
