Page 3 has: "Interesting From California" which takes over a full column with various news items from the gold region. Some bits include: "...The whole of Lower California was deserted by the men who had gone North to the placer. When Mr. Suwerkrop touched at Cape San Jose he found scarcely any males there,,,There was not many in San Francisco; they were scattered over the country--at Sutter's Fort, encamped on the placers...many diggers had pitched their tents around the bay of San Francisco...The largest lump that Mr. S. has seen weighted 14 ounces..." and much more.
A nice & rare opportunity for a very early newspaper from the capital of Florida. Very rarely are we able to find antebellum Florida newspapers, particularly from the capital. Formatted much like other newspapers of the day with various news reports both local & national, and a wealth of ads as well.
Four pages, damp staining in the top half, slightly irregular at the spine, nice condition.
