April 16, 1787

THE CONNECTICUT COURANT, Hartford, April 16, 1787  Keeping in mind that the Constitutional Convention would convene in May, page 2 has a fascinating letter headed: "A Thought For the Delegates to the Convention to be held at Philadelphia" which offers an interesting proposal: "Instead of attempting to amend the present articles of confederation...or instead of attempting one general government for the whole community of the United States, would it not be preferable to distribute the states into three Republics, who should enter into a perpetual League and Alliance for mutual defence?..." with more on this proposed system (see).
Four pages, nice condition.
