Page3 has nearly half a column headed: "A Naval Engagement" concerning the Spitfire, the frigate President, and the Little Belt. One bit notes: "...There is no truth in the report of the President having been sent out in pursuit of the frigate that impressed a man from the brig Spitfire--and the unfortunate affair now before us has no connextion with any particular orders to Commodore Rogers..." and what follows are: "Particulars of the engagement between the U.S. frigate President, Commodore Rogers, and the British sloop of war Little Belt, Capt. Bingham..." with the details (see).
Following impressment attempts by the British upon the American ship Spitfire, and engagement between the American frigate President results in the British ship Little Belt being disabled with 31 casualties. This incident would eventual one of others that would soon lead to the War of 1812.
Four pages, minor light staining or foxing, good condition.
