February 12, 1814

THE WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Feb. 12, 1814  Inside has: "Events of the War" with the latest news from the on-going War of 1812, taking over 8 pages. Among the reports and subheads are: "The Niagara Frontier" "Documents"; a lengthy letter from "Head quarters, Niagara frontier" to the governor of New York, which includes: "...the storming of Fort Niagara and the burning of Lewistown, presaging further devastation, threw this whole country into the most violent agitation..." and much more great reading on the raid at Black Rock and Buffalo, New York. This if followed by several more related letters including one from Batavia.
The back page has: "The following is the official account of the attack on the U.s. schooner Alligator by the British barges..." (see photos).
Complete in 16 pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, evenly toned, otherwise in very good condition.

This small size newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
