March 14, 1818

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, March 14, 1818  The back page has a short but historic item: "A great man has fallen--Gen. George Rogers Clark died at Locusts Grove, in Kentucky...in the 66th year of his age. He was considered as the father of the western country..." (see photo).
Much other news of the day including a great deal on politics. Complete in 16 pages, 6 by 10 inches, in very good condition.

This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
