THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, Tennessee, Sept. 21, 1913  The top of the sports page has a three column heading: "YOUTHFUL AMERICAN AMATEUR WHO WON NATIONAL OPEN GOLF TITLE AND ENGLISHMAN WHO FINISHED SECOND" which is above photos of Francis Ouimet--the 20 year-old amateur winner, and the famed professional Harry Vardon. First report coverage on the famous 1913 U.S. Open golf championship in which Ouimet pulled out a stunning upset against a professional field of players. An historic event in golf history.
Beneath the photos are one column heads: "American Amateur Is Open Golf Champion" "Francis Ouimet, 20 Years Old, Won Playoff of Triple Tie" "Defeated English Vets" "Harry Vardon and Edward Ray Succumb to Skillful Hands of Youthful Player in Open National Championship of United States" with much text.
The complete 88 page Sunday newspaper, partially loose at the spine, expected toning, nice condition but it should be handled carefully.
Complete in 12 pages, light toning, some margin wear with a few small tears, loose at the spine, should be handled with care.
