NEW YORK TIMES, October 9, 1926

* Babe Ruth - World Series HR promise
* Johnny Sylvester - sick boy

Page 19 has an article with one column heads: "Sick Boy Expecting Ruth 'Homer' Today" "Lad Who Received Autographed Baseballs May Hear Game by Radio".
As most baseball fans know this is the story of Johnny Sylvester, an 11 year-old  deathly ill, to whom Babe Ruth promised a home run in the World Series. Ruth came through with 3 home runs in game 4 --and as the story goes--causing the boy to recuperate, saving his life. By some accounts Ruth told Sylvester he would try to hit another homer or two for him on October 9, hence the heading in this article (he would fail to do so).
A nice issue on the fabled Johnny Sylvester story and a touching event in the history of the Babe Ruth & the Major League World Series.
The front page reports on the Series with: "Yanks And St. Louis Resume Here Today; Cards' Record Trip" with several subheads (see) and with the text carrying over to page 11.
Complete in 36 pages, light toning, minor spine wear, generally very nice.
