Page 2 has a significant report which includes: "The Western Expedition--and its issue--occupy all our thoughts...The Indians charged our troops, tomahawk in hand, and must have suffered considerably from the bayonets of our troops--though their loss cannot be ascertained. It is said Gen. Scott with 5000 Kentucky volunteers has reached Fort Jefferson & has marched immediately in quest of the Indians--in hopes to overtake them...Colonel Gibson and Major Butler are said to be dead of their wounds. Gen. St. Clair's tent was surrounded by the Indians--but the quarterguard, with a dexterous use of the bayonet, repelled them...The conduct of Gen. St. Clair, as always is the case when the event happens to be unfortunately has been scrutinized..." with more (see). This was the Battle of the Wabash, to this date the single biggest defeat of an American army at the hands of Native Americans.
