November 20, 1824

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, November 20, 1824  Inside has over 3 pages taken up with various reports concerning the "Presidential Election", with local & stare returns as received up to the publication date. It would ultimately be won by John Quincy Adams. A brief item: "The Pirates" reports of a ship captured off the coast of Cuba by pirates who murdered all expect one (see).
An article: "The Nation's Guest" reports on General La Fayette's visit to the Monticello, residence of Thomas Jefferson, noting: "...the meeting between these two patriarchs of the revolution is said to have been very affecting; they remained clasped in each others arms for several minutes, in speechless emotion..." and more (see).
A bkpg. item reports the fire which destroyed the capitol building at Frankfort, Kentucky.
Sixteen pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches, very nice, clean condition.

This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
