Louisville is difficult to categorize as Union or Confederate during the Civil War as, depending on the time, there were factions within the city supporting both. To placate both sides the two leading newspapers took their stands: the "Courier" was very much pro-Confederate & the "Journal" was more pro-Union. This is the pro-Confederate newspaper.
The front page has: "Reign of Terror--Military Murders in St. Louis" "Letter From Frankfort...The Affairs in Southern Kentucky..." "Delegates from Louisville to the Frankfort Convention" " Reported Fight at Shelbina--The Second Kansas Reg. Surrenders to Martin Green's Force" "Our Army Correspondence--The Western Virginia Campaign--Position of Col. Rust's Arkansas Regiment--The Federals Won't Fight" and other items.
Inside includes an interesting editorial headed: "The War Is On Us" and other articles including: "What Neutrality Means" "Narrow Escape" "Confederate Officer Released" "Many Killed & Wounded" "and most notably: "Beauregard's Official Report of the Battle of Bull Run..." which takes 3 columns with tremendous detail.
Four pages, untrimmed margins, once guillotined then archivally rejoined at the spine which shaves the first letter of two to the upper two-thirds of the left side of the first column of the Beauregard report, no effect to columns 2 & 3. Otherwise in nice condition.
