Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
The front page includes: "What the Morning Journals Say" "The Orleans Battalion in Both Actions" "The Designs of the Enemy" "The Indian Country" "as well as many ads. The prime content would be the lengthy page 2 report headed: "THE BATTLE OF SHILOH" which takes over two columns, & is continued in a future issue. The coverage is very detailed on this significant battle which resulted in some 24,000 casualties (see for portions). Page 2 also has: "The Confederate Conscription Law" & the "Death of Major Avegno" among other items.
Four pages, evenly foxed, very nice condition.
Complete as a 4 page newspaper, a few binding indents at the blank spine, even toning, 2 small, old tape mends do not deter, generally nice condition.
