May 22, 1927

THE NEW YORK TIMES, May 22, 1927  This front page ranks among the most recognizable (and most desired) of the twentieth century, not far behind the famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" Chicago Tribune headline of 1948.
The three-line banner head says it all: "LINDBERGH DOES IT! TO PARIS IN 33 1/2 HOURS; FLIES 1,000 MILES THROUGH SNOW AND SLEET; CHEERING FRENCH CARRY HIM OFF FIELD" with many related subheads (see).  Also on the front page is a photo of him, and a map showing his route across the Atlantic.
This is the entire Sunday newspaper with all 146 pages in addition to the Book Review and Rotogravure sections. Twelve sections in total. Rarely is this issue offered in such complete condition. Disbound and in very nice, clean condition, a very discrete archival mend to page 2.  Very minor chip to an upper corner not close to any text.
An issue which should be in every 20th century collection.
