COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Sept. 3, 1814 Page 2 has an article: "Evacuation of Washington" which begins: "Numerous accounts from the South concur in stating that the British have left the city of Washington and district of Columbia, and have retired to their shipping in the Patuxent and Potowmac...The destruction of the Capital appears to have been the Navy Yard..." with more. This is followed by an: "Extract of a Letter from Baltimore" which begins: "The British have left Washington & we still continue at the utmost pitch of alarm & preparation...The officers of the government are returning to Washington; but it is expected the seat of government will be speedily removed therefrom forever...The President & his heads of departments are still reported missing..." (see).
The front page has: "War Near Virginia--Sketches & Reports".
Four pages, browning at the very top, nice condition.
