THE SCRANTON TIMES, Penna., Nov. 10, 1928

* Army vs. Notre Dame college football
* Coach Knute Rockne
* 'Win one for the Gipper' fame

A great banner headline on the front page: “NOTRE DAME IN TIE AT END OF 3D” with subheads: “ARMY TEAM FIRST TO SCORE; 85,000 FANS AT BATTLE” “Fumble Costs Irish Eleven Chance To Score—Slagle Helps In Crossing Western Line” with smaller subheads. This was the game made famous by Knute Rockne’s “Win one for the Gipper” halftime speech.
The front page says it all. A great headline while the game was still being played noting the Irish had come back to tie the game despite being heavy underdogs. Detailed play by play reporting up to the end of the 3rd quarter, all on the front page.
Very rare to have college sports the main focus on the front page. Light browning with minor central fold wear, minor margin wear, partially loose at the spine, good condition.
