September 19, 1860

THE NEW YORK TIMES, Sept. 19, 21, and 22, 1860

* William Walker (filibuster)
* Nicaragua expedition

This is a nice trio of issues covering the capture of execution of William Walker. Walker. Walker was an American who appointed himself President of Nicaragua and attempted to establish it as a slave-holding empire in the Latin America. His controversial career ended with him being captured and executed.

The Sept. 19 issue has ftpg. heads: "The Fate of Walker" "...Details of Walker's Capture in Honduras" with nearly a half column of text (see). The Sept. 21 issue has on the ftpg: "Gen. Walker Shot" "News from Truxville by way of Havana--Gen. Walker & Col. Ruttler Executed..." with very few details (see). The Sept. 22 issue has on pg. 4: "The Late General Walker" which reflects upon his life & career (see).

All three issues are complete in 8 pages, the last issue having a tiny hole in the Walker report (see), otherwise light foxing & generally nice condition.
