Item # 646018 HARPER'S MONTHLY, New York., February, 1875  Inside has an informative 17 page article: "New Washington" which includes 16 illustrations of notable buildings, streets, landmarks and more, plus a nice 4 1/4 by  3 1/2 inch portrait of Frederick Douglass. The article provides a textual sketch of Douglass, mentioning in part: "Here it may be added that the statesmen of the African race are nearly all resident in Washington, or in frequent council there, headed, of course, by one of the first literary minds which Maryland has produced. I mean Frederick Douglass....Once a flogged slave..." and more. Complete in 164 pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, still with original outer wrappers despite being disbound, great condition.
