This newspaper is forever linked to the best-selling novel of the 19th century: "Uncle Tom's Cabin", for the book was originally released as a 40 week serial in this anti-slavery newspaper beginning in June, 1851. It was the newspaper's publisher who encouraged Stowe to produce the work in book form, and it is common consensus that the book had much to do with popularizing sentiment which lead to the Civil War.
Most notably is the pg.4 article: "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which takes over half of the page and is prefaced with a paragraph which includes: "A story of negro life in the Slave States from the pen of an American authoress, Mrs. Stowe, under the title of Uncle Tom's Cabin; or Life Among the Lowly, has lately made a great impression in the United States..." which is quite the understatement. Lincoln himself gave some credit to the book being a catalyst for Civil War. The letter goes into great depth concerning the book and only a small portion is seen in the photos.
Page 3 has a small advertisement: "50,000 Copies Sold In Eight Weeks! - Uncle Tom's Cabin: Or, Life Among The Lowly, by Mrs. Harriet Beecher Stowe..." with a bit of detail (see).
Four pages, nice condition. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
