NEW YORK HERALD, Sept. 21, 1862  The front page has half of the first column taken up with Civil War battle reports, most dealing with the historic Battle of Antietam, including: "THE WAR NEWS" "The Very Latest from the Field of Battle" "Retreat of the Rebels Across the Potomac" "2500 Dead Rebels Found on the Field" "The Battle Of Antietam"  "Another Graphic Description of This Great Fight" "Truth of History" and in the third column is: "The Battle Of Antietam--Another Account of This Great Battle by One of Our Special War Correspondents" which has a great wealth of fine reporting on this significant battle.
Included on the front page is: "The President's Despatch" which reads: "I now consider it safe to say that General McClellan has gained a great victory over the great rebel army in Maryland, between Frederick and Hagerstown. He is now pursuing the flying force." signed in type: A. Lincoln.
The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day's fighting of the entire war, with both sides losing over 10,000 men in killed & wounded.
Complete in 8 pages, a printing crease in the last column, nice condition.
