April 24, 1942

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 24, 1942

* James 'Jimmy' Doolittle becomes a General
* Post Doolittle raid on Japan
* World War II - WWII

Page 4 has a two column heading: "President Makes Doolittle a General, Has Navy Jump O'Hare 30 Numbers" with photo of James 'Jimmy' Doolittle. Interesting he received this honor just a few days after his famous air raid on Japan but weeks before the public knew he was involved. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 38 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Light toning at the margins, nice condition.
