Item # 645467 GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, December, 1760  Among the articles in this issue are: "A Treatise on Canine Madness" "On The High Price of Candles" "Reflections by M. Maubert on the Importance of Canada" "A Description of Montreal & the Adjacent Country" "Some Account of Carisbrook Castle in the Isle of Wight..." which is accompanied by a full page print of the castle, with some descriptive notes in the caption (see). The print is slightly irregular at the bottom but causing no loss, plus some ink off-setting.
Also in this issue: "Prussian Account of the Battle of Torgau" and "Austrian Account of the Battle of Torgau" and more.
The other full page plate called for in this issue shows various: "Phoenician Medals" and accompanies an article: "Learned Explanation of some Phoenician Coins".
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which gives various news reports of the day. It includes nearly a full page of reporting under the heading: "America" with items datelined Charleston and Philadelphia, the former relating to troubles with the Indians, and the latter with content relating to the French & Indian War (see).
Complete in 52 pages, measures 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, nice condition. Includes the full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate.
A very nice magazine from the French & Indian War period from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
