The ftpg. is taken up with a lengthy debate in Parliament concerning the amout of Land Tax for 1776 with mention of the cost of a war with America. Also mentioned: "...in expectation that a revenue was to be obtained in America as a means of alleviating the burthens of this country, which were almost become intolerable, but finding that object abandoned...".
Page 2 has a few items relating to Canada & America, with page 6 containing a great "Address of the Gentleman & principal Inhabitants of the Town of Boston to his Excellency Governor Gage", actually a kind 'farewell' letter upon Gage's return to England. It includes the lengthy list of signers & is followed by his response to the people of Boston, signed in type: Tho. Gage (see).
The bkpg. has more American content with: "That the forces under the command of General Gage had consisted of 17 regiments...that there wanted about 800 men to make the complement compleat...That England had been the original aggressor; that the Americans had been driven by the oppressiveness of power, and the wantonness of tyrantic cruelty into resistance; that the Americans never would yield to the parliamentary right of taxation, although they by no means wished so far to spurn at the supremacy, as to be independent of the constitutional authority of this country...that independence, with or without a King, had been the constant aim of that country..." and more fine content.
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches, some dirtiness, generally nice condition.
