April 09, 1866

CONCORD DAILY MONITOR, New Hampshire, April 9, 1866

* Civil Rights Bill becomes law
* Post Civil War - slavery

The top of page 3 has: "The Civil Rights Bill A Law" noting; "The vote on the Civil Rights bill was taken this afternoon and passed over the veto by a vote of 122 against 41, and the Speaker declared that the bill had become a law. Tumultuous and long continued applause follow3ed, with some hisses, when the House adjourned..." with just a bit more. Very rare to have this same-day report.
An interesting pg. 2 tidbit: "Lieut. Gen. Grant was arrested on Saturday for fast driving in the streets of Washington."
Four pages, nice condition.
